Dear JCA Chinese School Learning Community 2011

Dear All,

This is Yongan Wu, an assistant professor at UNF and now the new principle of Jacksonville Chinese Sunday school. It is my honor to be appointed to this position with the great trust and expectation from School Board of Directors. In return I offer my knowledge and dedication without reservation.

I want to express my greatest gratitude to former principles Dr. Song Zuorui and Dr. An lian, and members of school board. Without them we would not have this wonderful Chinese school that provides genuine, affordable opportunities to everyone in this region to learn the language. For example, let’s not forget that for years Coggin Business College doesn’t charge us a penny for using their facilities, all because of Dr. Song’s hard work, or the fact that Chinese school in the past two years enjoyed a budget surplus, what a rare word to hear in today’s America, thank for Dr. An’s leadership. Also, members from the school board had voluntarily contributed their share, and many times beyond their designated share, to the development of this school.

In the coming school year, the school board and I have identified a few priorities based on advices from parents and students. We are going to invest more resources on teachers to help them develop courses that are more interesting, engaging and rewarding, because we believe being interesting encourages learning; being engaging leads to better learning, and being rewarding answer the objective of learning Chinese. For instance, we will supply teachers materials for after-class reading as well as for SAT and AP Chinese preparation. We will also implement a system to identify outstanding teachers and award them bonus to recognize their commitment and innovation, and then improve the overall quality of Chinese school.

I encourage all shareholders of this school, parents, teachers, administrators to work togethe. For example, teachers regularly update parents their children's performance; administrators help teachers obtain more resource and support, an so on. With this concerted action we can endow every student a joyful and meaningful learning experience.

Wish we all a successful school year

Sincerely,

Yongan Wu

Dear JCA Chinese School Learning Community 2010:
Time flies like a sparrow! Believe it or not, the new semester is around the corner! Welcome Back! As I begin my second year as principal of the JCA Chinese School, I look forward to our continued partnership in creating an environment where our kids can thrive academically and our parents socially.
With the concerted support from our students, teachers and the community, the JCA Chinese school has had a spectacular academic year and achieved the following: 1) The parents club is founded with the mission to provide a platform for social contact and camaderie among parents. 2) Two extra-curriculum courses (violin and drawing) are added to the program, which received warm and positive feedback from our students and parents. 3) The enrollment has break the record of one hundred for the second time in the history. 4) The JCA Chinese School has won the Education Award from the Mayor's Asian American
Advisory Board and The City of Jacksonville, which is a resemblance of the diligence and intelligence of the whole community.
Through the collective efforts of the school board, the activity plan for the new semester is shaped. The activity plan includes the following: 1) The parents club lectureship offers three professional lectures on "personal finance" sponsored by Ms. Chen Wen ( 陈文), a specialized financial advisor of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. 2) In addition to the free educational lectures, the parents club introduces two adult courses at a reasonable tuition: adult dancing and singing. 3) Aiming to preserve our distinctive tradition, the school has planned a field trip to Museum of Contemporary Art/Jacksonville (China Forum), which will exhibit numerous exquisite Chinese arts.
Taking this opportunity, I want to express my special and heartfelt gratitude to my capable school board. Without the persevering and dedicated support from everyone, the school would be like a bird without wings! Meanwhile, With great enthusiasm, I want to introduce to you two new members on board of our management team: Ms. Haze Liff (周怡晗), the assistant to the principal, and Dr. Japser Xu (徐晶), Public Relation Staff. They will officially start the two-year term from 08/22/10. For the detailed bio of Ms. Haze Liff and Dr. Xu, please go to our website. While sounds a little self-serving, you have every reason to be proud of the fantastic management team and believe that the school will escalate to a higher level under its leadership.
I encourage each of you to choose how you can commit in our continuous improvement. Through hard work and collective efforts, we can ensure that all of our students have access to high quality, standards-based interaction. Let each of us embrace the dream and work for the future of the JCA Chinese School!
Learning Happens Here! And wish you a successful new semester!

Sincerely,

Lian An, Ph.d, CFA

For school year 2009

Dear students, families, and teachers:

Welcome back to School! I hope you all had a restful and relaxing summer.

My name is An, Lian (安 莲). I am an assistant professor of Economics of Coggin
Business College at the University of North Florida. I am newly appointed to
principal of the JCA Chinese School. It is a great honor to be in this
position. Thanks to the JCA Board of Directors for their trust and confidence in
me.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my predecessor: Dr. Song, Zuorui,
who is also the founder of JCA Chinese School. Dr. Song and his team of school
officials have left us with a valuable legacy of a thriving Chinese school
that enjoys diverse, open-minded, friendly atmosphere. Ever since the
foundation of the JCA Chinese School in the year 2003, it has taken the
leadership in Jacksonville to provide first-class Chinese language education
to the community. In several short years, more than 500 students have received
specialized Chinese education from the school.

To my mind an educational institute is not just about bricks, mortar and
concrete, but about building character, enriching minds and about enriching
experiences that lasts a lifetime. Life is not a set of instructions but is a
series of experiences and learning process. Learning Chinese is no exception.

As such, the JCA Chinese school board, teachers and students work together in
a learning community characterized by civility, mutual respect and harmony.
Specifically, our goals are the following: 1. teacher-student interaction of
highest quality; 2. promoting profound Chinese culture as well as elegant
Chinese language; 3. Transformational learning that results in a positive
shift in the way the community think and view China.

We operate with very limited resources. Therefore it is a challenge, a
challenge that requires everybodys participation in order to succeed. I have
adopted an Open Door Policy as one of my management styles. I invite you to
find out more about our and share your ideas and opinions with me. Let us
work together!

Thanks.
